Roatan, Honduras, a lazy get-away

Roatan is a largely undiscovered jewel in the Caribbean. Unlike the hustle and pulse of the more "tourist-oriented" resorts, Roatan is the perfect destination to unwind, decompress from life and enjoy great diving, food, beaches and hospitality.

We have stayed a number of times at the Fantasy Island Resort. A private, 21-acre property with everything you need close-at hand.

In addition to over 100 dives, the resort features the easiest-egress, and most stable dive boats of any operator we have used; large, shallow-bottom designs, optimized for the conditions of Roatan. At the end of each trip, there's no climbing up and over a dock to get-off the vessel - it backs-into the dock and you step off at the same level!

We assume that Hondurans have a sweet tooth, as on every trip we've experienced spectacular fresh-made ice-creams and pastries to finish-off the resort's tasty fare. The unlimited shore diving will help keep the calorie burn in balance!

Dive boats with the easiest-on-easiest-off design in the Caribbean. Roatan boasts over 100 dive sites that will cater to everyone's tastes.

Tons of room to get your gear ready and to relax on your way out to the dive. Boats are fully covered to give shade if you need to stay out of the sun...

The resort is sprawled-over the island - low-level detached blocks create a more intimate experience.

If three boat dives daily (and the unlimited shore dives) are not enough "aquatic time", you can also lounge by the freshwater pool....

The resort has an activities coordinator who can book optional side-trips. On our previous visit, a number of divers took advantage of both a spectacular shark-dive experience, and the Dolphin Research facility associated with Anthonys Key Resort..

Optional day trips to the west side of the island can result in some great artisan mementos!.
